The Ultimate 4 Ingredient Peanut Soy Sauce

This peanut soy sauce is the perfect flavour explosion to add to chicken, tofu, tempeh or noodles! It takes me just seconds to whip up, and tastes absolutely incredible! Plus, it’s only 4 ingredients! Peanut soy sauce is a staple in my diet because it goes with so many dishes, and it elevates the flavour so much. With the deep toast nuttiness both from the peanut butter and the sesame oil, it helps to add depth when roasted with vegetables, used as a marinade, or drizzled on a meal before serving. It’s an absolute favourite of mine, and I am so excited to publish this simple recipe for everyone to try!

How you could use your peanut soy sauce:

  • As a marinade for meat or vegan protein sources
  • To use when roasting vegetables (peanut roasted aubergine is absolutely amazing)
  • Poured over some fried tofu- check out my crispy tofu recipe
  • As a dipping sauce for summer rolls or spring rolls
  • In a pad Thai- check out my recipe for pad Thai with prawns
  • As a homemade stir fry sauce- see my chicken stir fry recipe
  • To coat fried chicken- check out my butterfly fried chicken

The peanut butter can be difficult to fully incorporate. It likes to lump together and then separate into the mix in a grainy sort of texture. The best method I find is to just attack the sauce with a fork and mix vigorously (without getting sauce everywhere) until all the elements are incorporated. This usually works out for me, but feel free to use a blender, Nutri-bullet or hand blender to save you some time. I have also made this sauce with crunchy peanut butter, and it works really well! I do prefer the smooth sauce for cooking proteins with, such as chicken or tofu. But crunchy peanut soy sauce is a great idea if you are using it as a dipping sauce (e.g. for summer rolls), or for roasting veggies, to add in some more texture! I tend to chop some peanuts and scatter them on top of the sauce when I serve it.

Ingredients: (makes 2 servings)

  • 2 tbsp gluten free soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp smooth peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp cold water

Method:

Step 1: add all your ingredients to the bowl.

Step 2: mix the ingredients until fully combined. This may take a while since the peanut butter is quite stubborn!

Serve/add to your chosen dish with some chopped peanuts. This sauce will keep for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container. I choose to store it in the fridge to preserve it best.
