Easiest 3 Ingredient Chocolate Nutella Bark

Fancy a super quick sweet treat which doesn’t require baking, many ingredients, or a huge amount of mess? Well, this chocolate Nutella bark may be perfect for you! With the crisp crunch from the chocolate and hazelnuts and the creamier bite of the strawberry, this well balanced treat is a great alternative to a standard chocolate bar. The sweetness from the strawberries balance out the slight bitterness from the dark chocolate, and the hazelnuts help to extend the deep taste of the bark! I look forward to you giving it a try!

I choose to melt my chocolate in the microwave since I find it easier and less messy than heating it on the stove top or double boiling it. The best way for me to microwave my chocolate it by putting it on high heat for 15 second intervals. I then will take it out an mix it (even if the chocolate has hardly melted) to get other squares of chocolate exposed to the heat of the bowl. I will then put the bowl back into the microwave to melt for a further 15 seconds and then repeat the process until there is no chunks of chocolate left un-melted in the bowl.

I recommend dark chocolate for this recipe because I like how it balances out the sweetness from the strawberries. But if you find yourself being more of a sweet tooth than I am, feel free to use milk or white chocolate instead. You could even be creative and have two different types of chocolate going on, and make it into a swirl pattern to make your chocolate Nutella bark more aesthetic and elegant looking! I would do this by using a toothpick to gently swirl the two chocolates together.

What else you could add to your chocolate Nutella bark:

  • Nuts: peanuts, walnuts, pecans
  • Seeds: chia seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds, hemp seeds
  • White chocolate swirl
  • Peanut butter swirl
  • Chocolate shavings over the top
  • Coconut sprinkle – if this doesn’t upset your IBS
  • Fruit: kiwi, orange/tangerine, grapefruit, banana (if this doesn’t upset your IBS), raspberries, blueberries, blackberries

Ensure you don’t end up overlapping the toppings, as they won’t stick and will fall of the bark. You want to press the toppings into the chocolate, so that when it freezes, they are stuck right into the chocolate! The last thing you want is to take a bite of your bark, and have half the toppings fall off! Feel free to use more chocolate to create a thicker layer if you are worried about having the toppings come off, or to create a chocolate drizzle over the top to keep the strawberries and hazelnuts in place! I think a white chocolate drizzle could look very elegant.

It is up to you whether you want to have more authentic looking bark- where they are all different shapes and sizes, or whether you would rather have more uniform slices. If you choose to have even slices, I recommend you use a hot knife to cut through the chocolate or else the chocolate bark may shatter into uneven pieces. It’s a good idea to run your knife under some hot water before cutting the chocolate, or dipping it into a large bowl of boiling water to heat it up quickly.

Ingredients: (serves 4-6 people)

  • 3 x 100g bars of dairy free dark chocolate
  • 5 strawberries
  • 1/2 cup hazelnuts

Method:

Step 1: melt all your chocolate (I choose to microwave it).

Step 2: thinly slice your strawberries (about 3-5mm thick).

Step 3: pour your melted chocolate onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. You want the layer of chocolate to be thin and even.

Step 4: evenly distribute your sliced strawberries and hazelnuts over your melted chocolate.

Step 5: place your tray of chocolate into the freezer for 30 mins.

Step 6: take your tray out of the freezer and chop into squares. Alternatively snap pieces off your slab of chocolate to get a more ‘bark-like’ appearance.

This chocolate Nutella bark will last in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. Store in an airtight container.
