Easiest At-Home Ginger Shot Recipe

These ginger shots are packed with so much goodness. They are so fresh and vibrant, with such a seriously punchy taste, I always feel so refreshed and energised after one! I highly doubt I’ll ever go back to store bought ginger shots!! They are full of vitamin C and antioxidants, which helps me to feel cleansed and like I’m doing something really good for my body. These ginger shots have become a part of my daily routine!

Ginger is absolutely fantastic for your immune system, helping to work against fevers, colds and general other sicknesses. In addition, ginger is anti-inflammatory, which can aid in joint pain, general body inflammations and to help you feel more energised! Ginger is also known to help with your digestion, and lower blood cholesterol, making it very clear why this incredible root has been used for generations as a natural healing medicine.

Lemon juice has a high content of naturally occurring citric acid making it have a pH value of just over 2. Although this is very acidic, lemon juice is really good for you and interestingly, our bodies have an alkalizing effect on the juice once it is consumed. Lemon juice is also known to help with digestion, anti-ageing, immune support, hair skin and nails. It is especially good for when you are ill, since lemon juice contains high amounts of vitamin C which boosts your immune system. This juice is a great addition to this health shot, since it also has anti-bacterial properties!

Just like lemon juice, freshly squeezed orange juice is incredibly rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which help to fight illness and colds. Research also suggests that oranges can help support heart health and blood pressure, and also help with brain and heart health. Oranges are also said to help with iron deficiencies- not because oranges contain large amounts of iron- but because they can help your body to absorb more iron from other foods.

Tips and tricks for your ginger shots:

  • Add some honey or maple syrup if this ginger shot is too strong or spicy for you!
  • Can add turmeric for additional health benefits
  • Use a tea leaf strainer for a super smooth shot consistency
  • Could use the ginger pulp to make lemon and ginger tea
  • Don’t strain if you would like a thicker- more smoothie-like texture (consuming the pulp will add more nutrients and fibre)
  • Add cinnamon
  • Add blended carrot
  • Add spinach

Cayenne pepper can help to boost metabolism and reduce hunger. I weirdly find that spicy food helps to keep me fuller for longer, which is something that I find super interesting! Research has also suggested that cayenne pepper can help to improve digestive health, and can lower blood pressure. With all of these health benefitting ingredients in one quick shot, I find that I feel so much better after having these for a few days, especially when I am feeling under the weather.
